At the completion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Identify the most common chronic pain conditions
• Identify consumer concerns about the pain treatment they have received
• Identify the key decisions to be made as a result of conducting a pain screening
• Identify the basic questions that need to be asked in conducting a meaningful pain screening
Description:
This course presents the basic components of a meaningful pain screening process for clients seeking behavioral health care. Too often, screening for pain in behavioral health settings is modeled after hospital-based screening for the existence of acute pain. In fact, behavioral health providers are more likely to see people with recurring or chronic pain conditions who need effective management of their pain if they are going to achieve relief of their behavioral health problems.
