  Objectives: After completing this course, participants should be able to: • Describe psychiatric medications and how they differ from other medications • Identify the roles of psychiatric medication in mental health care • Identify potential barriers of treatment as well as options to overcome such barriers • Learn about prescription assistance programs • Understand the roles of diversity and diagnostics associated with psychiatric medication programs • Identify means to support a thorough approach to initiation of psychiatric medication in children/adolescents, and who can prescribe psychiatric medication • Broaden knowledge of variables influencing duration of treatment • Enhance general awareness of the different classes of psychiatric medications • Know resources regarding psychiatry for children and adolescents
  Description: Both children and adolescents require care measures that differ from adults, and therefore special attention to their psychiatric needs is an important part of their treatment planning. This course will introduce you to general information regarding psychotropic medication as it relates to this population and will address the role of these medications in their mental health care. Current evidence-informed guidelines for consideration in the initiation and maintenance of a psychiatric medication regimen for this population are discussed. Keywords: Psychotropic Medications
