Online Course Title: Retired ~ Todays Psychoanalysis Volume V Part D
  Category: 31
  Credits: 2

Objectives: Learn the latest ideas in contemporary psychoanalytic thought
Description: New views on sexuality - Freud’s views of sexuality have provoked violent controversy for 100 years. Today’s gender and sexuality controversy Is between those whose views on these issues are biologically based and those who view gender differences not as biological bedrock but as socially constructed categories. Marion Tolpin, M.D., "Freud and Women," the listener will learn about Freud’s thinking about women and the current views of the psychoanalytic community. Masculinity is no longer the base line against which femaleness is contrasted. Richard Isay, M.D., "Homosexuality," the listener will hear the point of view of Dr. Isay, who has been prominent among those who have argued that sexual orientation is fundamentally constitutional and not subject to change. His ideas and activism were responsible for moving the traditional goals of the psychiatric establishment with regard to homosexuals away from its longstanding aim of using psychotherapy to turn them into heterosexuals.
