  Category: 31
  Credits: 1.5

Objectives: • Learn how to assess a patient for the potential of violence • Learn the differential meaning of auditory hallucinations in psychotic patients versus patients with multiple personality disorders
Description: Three of the four interviews on this tape were prompted by a survey that the Secret Service sent to a number of social workers in the country which asked them what they would do if a patient threatened to kill the President. Ellen Leupker, M.S.W., reports on her interviews with psychiatrists at the Menninger Clinic and the Secret Service. Hillel Bodek, M.S.W., BCD, a forensic clinical social worker, gives his framework for assessing the violent patient and the potential for violence. A key criterion is violence in childhood. Mohammed Alam, M.D., discusses the use of medication with violent patients and points out that the most dangerous patient in the therapy setting is the manic patient. Colin Ross, M.D., author of Multiple Personality Disorders, discusses the diagnosis of Multiple Personality Disorder, and focuses particularly on the differential meaning of auditory hallucinations in psychotic patients versus patients with multiple personality disorders.
