• Identify the major components of mindfulness
• Identify the major treatment approaches using mindfulness
• Identify whether the research supports these approaches or not
Description:
The purpose of this course is to introduce readers to mindfulness as a therapeutic technique. Mindfulness as a concept or function has its roots in the Buddhist traditions but has been separated from that context and brought into Western medicine as a strategy for improving psychological and physical health. Here we will briefly examine just what mindfulness is – its definitions, its components, the four major treatment approaches using it and relevant research.
