• Recognize masculine ideologies and male roles and their connection with substance use disorders.
• Identify the three parts of screening and assessment and apply them to work with your clients.
• Describe issues that may affect substance misuse treatment for most, if not all, men.
• Explain the different treatment modalities and the benefits to each in the treatment of substance use disorders in men.
Description:
The physical, psychological, social, and spiritual effects of substance use and misuse on men can be quite different from the effects on women. Those differences have implications for treatment in behavioral health settings and this course addresses these distinctions. It provides practical information based on available evidence and clinical experience. Through this information, counselors may more effectively treat men with substance use disorders and improve outcomes.
