• Review potential effects on children witnessing domestic violence
• Identify prevention and screening options
Description:
Children do not need to be physically abused themselves to feel the impact of domestic violence on their lives. Simply by living in a home that is experiencing domestic violence, a child is impacted. When a parent, or guardian, is living in an abusive relationship, children do not experience a home that inspires healthy development. – behaviorally, emotionally, physically, and socially. Children tend to mirror and mimic their “role models” looking for cues on how to communicate and act. If a child is only exposed to two adults in a volatile relationship, they may project what they learn in the home – not only for the present, but in the future as well.
This course focuses on recognizing signs and symptoms as well as the short –term and long-effects, of witnessing domestic violence.
