  Description: Assertive Community Treatment is an evidence-based practice promoted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for mental health consumers with the most severe symptoms. Assertive Community Treatment, known as ACT, has been used successfully over the past thirty years in urban, suburban, and rural settings to support persons with severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, to function in the community and avoid lengthy inpatient hospital stays. ACT uses a team approach to provide intensive mental health care and management for consumers in all areas of their life. This course is designed for mental health professionals, mental health administrators, and social workers as an introduction to ACT, its core processes and service areas.
