Description:
Module 3 of the Military Culture course focuses on the military family. We begin with demographics for the family –age, marital status, children, and the makeup of the Active and Reserve components of the military. Then we look at the most difficult time for most military families – deployment. Unlike many prior conflicts periods of wartime when the military draft was in effect, the United States military is now voluntary and not conscripted. Many young people see the military as a way to provide a stable beginning to their career and family. The eight-year service contract with half or more of the time served in a Reserve component means that more military families do not have support resources available in their local community. As a behavioral health professional, this module can help you gain insight into the challenges of military families face and suggest ways you and your community can better support them.
