  Objectives: At the completion of this course, you should be able to: • Identify at least three differences between strengths-based and traditional, medical-model approaches to assessment and planning • Identify seven major sections or areas of focus for strengths-based assessment and planning • Demonstrate the differences in diagnostic focused and strengths-based questioning for assessment purposes • Describe the differences in the kinds of interventions one might use in strengths-based versus traditional models of recovery planning • Identify at least three major considerations for effectively implementing a strengths-based approach to assessment and planning
  Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce you to a very different approach to assessment and treatment, care or service planning – one that is recovery-oriented and strengths-based, one that focuses on quality of life rather than symptom elimination. You will learn to look for how your clients want their lives to be different; what strengths they currently possess to help them get there; what skills or resources they need to get there; how to design a working plan to guide both of you in moving toward those different (or “recovered”) lives.
