At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:
• Describe the general conclusions about the impact of violent video games on criminal violence
• Describe the findings from the research about the impact of violent video games on aggressive behavior
• Describe the findings from the research on the impact of violent video games on prosocial behavior, empathy and desensitization to violence
• Describe some possible benefits of video games, including violent video games
• Describe possible moderating actions or interventions to offset any negative impact of violent video games
Description:
The goal of this course is to examine the impact of violent video games on aggression and violence in youth and/or young adults. There is an active argument in the literature about whether exposure to violent video games produces increases in aggression and/or violence and whether any effect size is significant enough to warrant some of the positions taken in public and professional policy. In this article, we will explore some of these issues.
