  Objectives: After completion of this course, you should be able to: • Identify the ways in which older adults are unique from the general adult population and the implication of those qualities for clinical practice. • Discuss the core competencies associated with geriatric care and ways in which clinical practice with older adults is different from working with other younger adults. • Identify professional resources available to guide those developing expertise in geriatric behavioral health and opportunities for developing competency in this specialization.
  Description: This course provides an overview of the special considerations involved in providing mental health care to older adults. This course is based on the premise that older adults present with unique needs and require a specialized approach to care. In order to work effectively with this population, clinicians require specialized training and expertise.
