At the completion of this program, participants should be able to: • Identify the differences between the various DSM-IV Bipolar Disorder diagnoses • Know the history of the Bipolar Disorder diagnosis among youth and the rationale behind the recent increase in prevalence rates • Identify through a developmental lens, what symptoms to look for in the presentation of Bipolar Disorder among youth • Know what diagnoses most commonly co-occur with Bipolar Disorder • Understand the two sides in the debate on diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder in youth

Description:
This course reviews the AACAP’s Practice Parameter for the Assessment & Treatment of Children and Adolescents with Bipolar Disorder as well as more recent research on the prevalence and clinical presentation of Bipolar Disorder in child and adolescent populations in order to help clinicians become better skilled at diagnosis among youth. This is a one hour course and targets case managers, social workers and other social service professionals in the child services and related fields.
