Upon completion of this training, participants will: • Recognize attitudes, perceptions, and biases with regard to marijuana use • Demonstrate increased knowledge of the components of marijuana, specifically THC, and how this impacts the potential for dependency • Identify the potential impact of marijuana use • Develop an increased ability to discuss the issue of marijuana use with clients or patients

Description:
Marijuana has evolved tremendously over the last 40 years. Research shows that the Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol, THC, level in marijuana today is often significantly higher than in the marijuana of the 60s and 70s. This higher THC level results in a greater potential for the development of tolerance. Thus, both short and long-term marijuana users may have different reactions and suffer greater consequences from their use than did their parents and others of the previous generation. This may include experiencing physical dependence and withdrawal, requiring professional drug treatment to discontinue their marijuana use. In discussing marijuana use with clients, teen and adults, as well as the parents of teens, knowing the most recent information and research will be very important.
