This is the first in a two part course series providing an overview of the fifth version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5). The recent release of the DSM-5 brings about significant changes in the criteria, documentation and assessment of mental illness. The series details the new edition structure, examines the shift toward a more dimensional approach to diagnosis and clarifies what has remained the same from the DSM-IV TR. The information provided will help staff to better navigate this important advancement.
