Description:
This course examines bullying and/or harassment and recent research on the subject. This kind of bullying is known as cyber, digital or electronic bullying and is often referred to as online or cyber harassment. It occurs through email, instant messaging, in chat rooms, on web pages, and through digital images or messages sent to cell phones or posted online. Research on cyber-bullying is still in its early stage, so researchers are looking at issues of prevalence, characteristics of individuals involved in the different bullying roles, e.g., bullies (also known as “e-thugs”), victims or targets, bully-victims and bystanders, characteristics of individuals associated with cyber-bullying compared to the more traditional forms of bullying, consequences of cyber-bullying to participants and intervention strategies.
